Recent Visit to Lutheran Home a Great Success!

Just thought I'd share  pictures from our recent visit
to the Lutheran Home.  It turned out to be an "all girls" trip.

Following our music program... a  worker, with tears in her eyes,
approached one of our girls....thanking her for singing one
of her favorite songs. The song had also been a favorite of her deceased father.

The older folks also enjoyed the music. They were very responsive...smiling and singing to tunes that were familiar to them.

Thanks to all who gave of their time to make many people happy!

How a Piano Teacher Knows a Student Has Practiced

1.  The student already knows what pages to turn to without looking at his or her's
     assignment sheet.
2.  The student plays through a piece without hesitations
3.  The student doesn't lean forward close to the book trying to read notes while
      playing. (Exception: poor vision)
4.  The student already has each book opened to assigned pages..showing a
     readiness to begin playing.

The Top Four Best Ways to Practice

1. Tap & count newly assigned songs two times
     each for first two days
2. Play each song slow enough to allow for no pauses.
Play song four times at one sitting.  Are you hesitating
    anywhere?
3. With pencil, lightly circle problem spots and play
'em over and over. Now play entire song.
4. Patience :)  Practice right no matter what.

Top Four Worst Ways to Practice

1. Forget tapping before playing
2. Start playing a song REALLY FAST and fumble through to the end.
3. Continue playing and ignore your mistakes.
4. Wait until the day before your lesson to cram in practice time.

Spring Recital: Great Success!

What an enjoyable evening we had!  Each student did a wonderful job!
I always enjoy hearing all my students perform in one evening...reminding
me of how much each one has progressed.

Many postive comments were made on the wonderful music provided by each
student.

I'm already looking forward to our next recital this upcoming Christmas....can't wait!
The more pianos we can play at once...the better:)  I think we need to start a piano
orchestra ;)

Thanks to all you parents for reminding your young person to practice diligently...
it makes a difference!

Please sign up as a blog member so you can leave comments and share ideas of what
you'd like to see or hear in our upcoming recitals.

Time to Start Lessons

I look forward to teaching everyone again this week!

It's time for intermediate to advanced students to begin
choosing their spring recital solos. I always enjoy helping
each student choose a piece that best fits their personality.

This year's spring recital will be held on May 19th at 7pm.

A new contest begins next week. Details coming soon...
